I Need Some Personal Help

Visit Clayton9504's Blog | 9 months ago

My new girlfriend, who is a lovely woman, is a democrat. I am a republican. But here is where things get confusing, we both want to be politics and are both hoping to be president one day. Do you think it is wise for a republican politician to date a democrat politician? I personally think that would be a wonderful idea for a republican politician to marry/date a democrat politician, because then they can discuss the differant topics each night and have their own mini debate. What do you guys think?

Interesting question actually, even though it's such a personal one. This isn't really a political answer, but I'd say the most important thing is always just mutual respect. Respect her (including her beliefs) and hopefully she can respect yours as well. In terms of politics (and even other beliefs), you may be able to learn quite a bit from each other, which would certainly be helpful for either of your future political careers. A lot of successful political couples actually consist of people on opposite sides of the ideological spectrum (e.g. James Carville and Mary Matalin). And anyway, there's no saying you'll eventually marry this woman necessarily, so what do you have to lose in the meantime? Just enjoy it for what it is and see where it goes.

The worst thing, whether in politics or relationships or anything else, is when people aren't able to disagree without being disagreeable, and not able to respect each other. From what I've seen of your posts you seem to able to do that, which is definitely a positive trait and one your GF will hopefully appreciate.

First of all, being a Democrat isn't bad, it's just the Liberal ones you need to watch out for.
