Little Known Fact

Visit Clayton9504's Blog | 9 months ago

Did you know that on top of the flag pole that is out infront of every government building (and ontop of the white house and on military bases) there is a ball. And the ball is made to break into 13 peices when dropped, to represent the 13 original colonies. And inside that ball you will find a book of matches, and a .45 caliber bullet. This is so the last standing officer can burn the flag, and load the last .45 caliber bullet into his pistol and shoot himself. The reason for this is because the United States officers have swore to defend the United States of America until they die. So During battle, if the base is being over run, the officer is supposed to use the book of matches to quickly burn the flag, to prevent the enemy from taking the flag and winning the war, and then he loads the last .45 caliber bullet into his pistol, and carries out his promise of defending the United States. The reason he kills himself is because American officers are not allowed to surrender a military base.

You still do not have my mind changed, I still say it is 100% true! I am not changing my mind, although I respect you opinion where you think it is a legend. But I think it is a fact. I will let you keep your thought on it being an urban legend, because I am not going to change your mind one way or the other.

So again, I respect your opinion.

As a lecturer at a military college I can assure you that this is a myth, a very old one. But it definitely delivers a very powerful and symbolic message that is good to share.

Just like a libertarian, always deny the facts.

First, it is safe to say you must not understand what a libertarian is.

Second, I am speaking truth, based on my own experiences and education, and that of many who have and do serve in the military.

I would not say your story was a legend if it were true, there would be no point. It is a legend that has evolved on multiple occasions (different ones claim different aspects) and has been in place for a long time. In fact the myth comes in many forms, some say the items are buried by the flag, including a revolver for a .38 caliber with 6 bullets. Others say one match, some a match book. Some do not mention matches at all, but mention a penny - 'so America will never be broke'. Some even mention these items, than state a year of inception that predates the items. Other versions include the revolver in the ball, while others say the items are in a compartment in the poll itself, not on top.

Myths and legends grow and spread over time. That is the case here.

They tell it out of fun and in sport. It's not true... so no need to worry.

Actually it is not an urban legend. This was told to my friend Lance Sumero when he got out of his training to become an officer in the United States ARMY. They told them about that in case they were ever in the situation where they had to do that.

Lol.. some people buy anything these days. The story is an urban legend. It is mainly told as a prank when teasing new recruits. It's not real.

The real purpose of the ball is practicality. It prevents water from filling hollow flag polls and ornates the poles. The ball replaced the eagle because flags would routinely tangle on the eagle in bad weather and shred apart.

Sorry guys.
