Quick Question to Libertarians.
I am just asking a simple question, which of these two more represents what Libertarianism stands for; Bill Maher or Glenn Beck?

"If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, go home from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that ye were our countrymen."-Samuel Adams
I am just asking a simple question, which of these two more represents what Libertarianism stands for; Bill Maher or Glenn Beck?
I despise his veiwpoints. But I like his show. Know why? He is respected as a Statist Leader, and that his points are so easily destroyed shows how weak the entire ideological group known as Statism really is. It's like a 100 story building made out of nothing but paper and horseshit.
Bill Maher says his ideology is Libertarianism, and we both know what a pile of horseshit that is, but Glenn Beck says he is a Conservative member of the Libertarian Party.
You might also mention his comments on talk shows, where he says that the General Secretary should drag people away from religion.
I can tell you haven't read his books. Read An Inconvenient Book and Arguing With Idiots, he explains all of his positions. But for a short outline. His position on Healthcare is the Free Market, on Welfare that it is corrosive. But if you really want to know his positions you'll have to read those books.
Nationalism? Which Nationalism? There are multiple kinds and degrees of nationalism. Glenn Beck is most certainly Patriotic, but I highly doubt he worships the state. Unless you would describe worships as "wanting to take a sledgehammer to".:) In which case sign me up for state "worship".
Neither are libertarians - but for an unknown reason, both claim the label.
Bill Maher believes in some libertarian ideas, such as legalization of drugs and prostitution, but is a massive statist when it comes to health care, business regulation, monetary policy, etc.
Glenn Beck, on the other hand, might seem on the surface that he probably has more libertarian ideas. He says he wants to shrink government, abolish the Federal Reserve, and opposes socialized health care (but I m not sure what his solution to health care is). However, Glenn Beck seems to glorify the state on the altar of nationalism and apparently reveres Abraham Lincoln, perhaps one of the most un-libertarian Presidents. Beck seems to ignore or is unaware of the connection between the warfare state and the loss of liberty.
Neither are libertarians by my definition. Personally, I think that you might be able to persuade both Bill Maher and Glenn Beck into giving up their respective religions of socialism and nationalism. But - just like most people, a real crisis has to be occurring for them to really consider fundamentally different ways of thinking. I know that many would point to what we have already experienced as a crisis, but I will tell you that it can get far, far worse. And it probably will have to before most people start to actually want to do something about their loss of freedom and prosperity.
Thank you for finishing that statement, I was getting worried for a second.
There aren't many people in this world that I can say that I actually HATE. He is on that list.
Well, I don't know if he hates America. He wishes our economy was government controlled, wants our Freedoms taken away, says our Military is cowardly...on second thought he hates America.
