From News: Russia backs return to Gold Standard to solve crisis
max 13 months agoWhat would you project the value of the dollar after returning to the gold standard? Lex Lowther 13 months agoIt's laughable to even consider returning to the gold standard. I'm guessing you never studied economics. Here's a down and dirty review of the Gold Standard: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gold_standard jel 12 months agoI think a return to the gold standard would eliminate U.S. corruption and prevent a world catastrophe when the U.S. has a minor recession. More later... Big-G (Independent) - 12 months agoThe upside of the return is you have a fixed amount of currency in the market as it is pegged to the amount a country has. This also prevents much government overspending as they can not print currency from thin air. They can only spend what they have. jel 12 months ago

Really it's just something humans have always thought had value. I mean diamonds are just another rock until you place human demand (women and shinny rings) into the equation. It s laughable to even consider returning to the gold standard. Very narrow and if I may say uninformed view of the idea, first off the idea is a return to a commodity backed currency (as opposed to a fiat one) which the popular culture generally refers to "the gold standard" , this doesn't however dictate that the only viable backing for currency is singularly gold (there are various possible alternatives including baskets of commodities).
