FAQ

  1. How do I start a Forum Debate?

On the "Forums" page you will see the "Start a Debate" button. Click on it and a new page will open where you may select the topic area, give your Debate a name, and write your "Opening Argument."

Then click "Start Debating!" and your thoughts will be posted and ready for comment!

  2. What's the difference between "Reply" and "Quote"?

Each is a different way to comment on another user's Forum post.

Clicking on "Reply" below a post opens a field for typing your comments. Your comments will appear as a reply to the other user's post, and the first few words of that post will be shown above your comments.

Clicking on "Quote" makes it easier to reply to just a particular part of the other user's post. When the comment field opens, just click on and select the part you wish to quote, and it will appear at the top of the comment field. Then, after adding your comments and clicking "Post," only the selected part of the other user's post will be shown above your comments.

If you wish to reply to more than one particular part of the other user's post, then click on "Reply" and copy-paste those parts into the comment field. Those parts will then be shown above your own comments.

  3. How will I know if a user responded to my Forum post?

You will receive an email notifying you that a user has posted a response.

  4. If I think a Forum post is inappropriate, how do I report that?

Click on "Report" below the post, describe the reasons why you find it inappropriate, and submit the report. Our team will then review your report and take appropriate action if the post is contrary to our Terms of Use.

  5. How can I send comments to the site administrators? Is anybody listening?

On the Forums page, in the top right corner, you will see the link "Contact Us." We encourage users to click on this and send us your thoughts on the Forums, or on the site generally. Like the Feedback link at the top of each page, we welcome user comments and appreciate your taking the time to help us improve the site!

  6. None of the Forum topics applies to my new Debate. What should I do?

"Politics" is a wide – really wide – subject, and the topics are intended to bring some order to the various Debates. But of course users are encouraged to debate whatever they like, and that's why the topic "None of the Above" is included. That's where you might start your new Debate.

  7. Can I edit my Forum posts?

Any of your Forum posts may be edited at any time until a user comments on it. Our thinking is that users add comments to what they see posted. If the original post is later edited, their comments may then seem out of place.

To edit your post, click on the "Edit" button below the post, or on your user Profile page beside the submission entry. You may then make the changes you wish and then click on "Save" to re-post it with your changes.

  8. Can I search the Forums?

Not right now, but this is among the features we will be adding in the near future.

  9. Can I add a standard signature to my Forum posts?

Not for the time being, but this is another feature we will be adding soon.
