"True leaders" of what? The ideology of statism, the status quo and failure? from what I've seen both of the individuals are too wrapped up serving their own self interests and pursuing their own self aggrandizement to be the leaders of anything.

I doubt that s4l knows what the hell statism is. It probably sounded good to him at the little democrats meeting in high school. The reason Dick Cheney really has no political future, imho, is that he would be demonized more harshly than Sarah Palin. The left can not stand toe to toe with either of them, so they have to trash them personally.

Well, I don t know! The problem with Rush & Cheney is they have never LEAD anything at least nothing that comes to mind WHEREAS Colin Powell led many troops in Vietnam including leading them over mine fields, watching one unfortunate America soldier after another occasionally hitting a live one. You think Rush or Dick have any comprehension what that s like? If you remember, Dick Cheney (Like George W Bush) managed to avoid service in Vietnam (Cheney: 'I had other priorities'), whereas Rush (I'm not making this up) had a 'sore ass' and avoided service in that manner.

I'll also mention Powell's leadership in motivating reluctant officers and accomplishing a quick victory in the first war with Iraq. He could easily have said 'mission accomplished' like that spoiled rich kid George Bush (and it would have been true for a change) but he had to much dignity and honor to do so.

Now, if Rush (who's nothing but an entertainer) and Cheney are the 'true leaders' what the hell did they ever lead????

I also need to add that since this thread is about convervatives that as Pat Buchanan said 'The is no conservative party in Washington DC anymore!'. The true conservatives have been alienated from the Republican party which is now filled with Trotskyite internationalists (Neocons) as opposed to the real 'America Firsters' like Nixon, Eisenhower, Sobran, Buckley, Goldwater, etc.

yeah, right. Let's see them show some individual responsibility for what they've done to this country in their 8 years. Let Cheney give back the millions of defense dollars he funneled through Halliburton into his pocket. Let Bush compensate the thousands of war dead that died because he "made a mistake" about WMD's (assuming you buy his own explanation, rather than that he just lied through his teeth in the first place because he entered office looking for any excuse to attack Saddam).
These leaders you think love "individual freedom" are the ones who have been tapping our phones and reading our emails without warrants! They are the ones who took away the Constitutional right of Habeas Corpus and claimed the power to declare any American citizen an "enemy combatant" on THEIR say-so, and lock you away in prison for as long as they cared to, without a lawyer or chance of appeal!
Were you even AWAKE during Bush's 8 years? How can you POSSIBLY see them as champions of freedom and individuality, for Christ's sake? They were the complete opposite of that!
