Gun Control

Gun Control

countryplowboy Member Since: Mar 17th, 2009 - Debate started 13 months ago

What is your opinion on Gun Control? I myself am a big fan of it, if you can't control your gun you can't hit anything with it.

Reasonable Gun control is necessary. It's important to keep criminals and crazies from obtaining them.

What you find reasonable may be anathema to another, and vice-versa. "Reasonable Gun Control" is completely subjective.

Are there not existing laws to deal with "criminals and crazies" who commit crimes with guns? To keep "criminals and crazies" from obtaining arms, it is totally unreasonable to regulate non-"criminals and crazies".

Are you unaware that the more you ask to be regulated, the less liberty you have to exercise? You may be in a hurry to dispose of Constitutional rights, many of us are not.

Do you, really, believe that regulation, even prohibition of arms, would prevent violent acts involving guns?
You did not respond to my previous question, but then you are not required to. But I will ask again: Are there not existing laws to deal with "criminals and crazies" who commit crimes with guns? To keep "criminals and crazies" from obtaining arms, it is totally unreasonable to regulate non-"criminals and crazies".

With rights come responsibilities. I don't want drunken psychotics driving cars nether do I want them owning guns. After all it is the USA that is the source of Mexican drug dealers weapons. I don't lay awake worrying about some one taking my guns ( And own several) Unlike the wack job in Pittsburg who killied three offficers of the law

Democracy is two wolves and a lamb voting on what to have for lunch.
Liberty is a well-armed lamb contesting the vote.

Only 17% of those weapons were actually traced to America. I have posted a news story on that very subject, Myth of 90 Percent.

So can a ballpoint pen or a pair of scissors. It is an individual right just like the right to free speech and the right to life. Take it away and you can forget the others. Great decision eh? Might want to check out what happens in countries where guns have been banned instead of just saying that.

I agree with you.Gun control is being able to hit what you aim at.I hate trigger locks as well. Any handgun with a trigger lock on it is no gun it is a rock.I'm sure some a-hole who comes into your home will gladly wait for you to get it out of your lock box and take off the trigger lock to defend yourself. My handgun never has had a lock on it and never will.

How do you define "crazy"? Criminals do not buy guns in stores. Most steal them or buy them from someone who steals them. You could ban the ownership of all firearms and criminals would still have them. That is why we call them bad guys. They would have no fear if they were banned and crime would go up so fast it would make your head spin.

Well a patient wher worked walked in a bout a rifle at a deptartment store and a mentally retarded guy walked into a gun store and bought another. The "crazy got cauight spotted by a staff and the "slow guy got killed by the police walking down the street pointing at passing cars. Not sure he was intelligent enough to know what a gun was. VMI shooter baught his gun at liscensed gun shop and I suspect the Pitt shooter did the sae. Glad you pointed out that many people just steal them.

I don't know of any 3 million. I ionly no of three mentally ill buys. out of about 1000 patients. I own guns I like guns I don't have as problem with restrictions on how and who gets to buy them. NO one should be able to buy one without a background check and i support a reasonable waiting period.

"Crazy" as in Mentally ill not capable of making rational judgements. You are aware that buying in gun shows at least in my state avoids a background check? Actually the major sourse of criminals guns is stealing them from legatamate owners who don't secure them properly.. If crime would increase without them why is our crime rate so high now? Muh hiigher then countries with more gun control.

Hardly unreasonable to have some rules regarding gun ownership any more then a car or drivers license. I like my guns too but I hardly fear being required to be responsible. I'd say for a minimum one should pass a gun handling test and be required to report any gun theft to the police

possession of a gun just like driving requires a license, hence it is a PRIVILEGE but doesn't the constitution say we have a RIGHT to bear arms and not PRIVILEGE?

Apparently, there has been an informal amendment to the constitution.

Buying at gun shows does not avoid a background check, if you buy from a licensed dealer. All licensed dealers must do the background check regardless of where they sell from. The only way to avoid the background checks is by buying from a private individual. Private sales can occur anywhere and are not limited to gun shows. The gun show loophole is a myth, perpetrated by uninformed or lying individuals.

In OR a gun show check is optional. As an honest Gun owner I believe there should be NO exceptions. Crazy people and crooks aren't more honest with a private purchase then with a dealer.
