The front page has went down hill with  features lost that were well appreciated by the members. The number of comments has dropped to numbers that are lower than I have seen since joining. About a dozen members are doing 90% of the comments.

 It seems that the most used feature is the videos and no comments are made on them save for that dozen or so members. The number of people who were once active and now are absent is growing every day.

This site was once great for the number of conservatives and liberals debating and arguing , many times civilly and sometimes otherwise but it was fun and often enlightening. No one can deny it has been a good place to read news you might not have seen.

These together make me wonder if the site is doomed to the dust bin.

I am sorry but this is a classic double standard comment. Looking back to the election of W the left has acted like rabid dogs. So what is a conservative to do, they can lay down and take it, walk away waving a white flag, or after being cornered they can fight back. "Don't Tread on Me". When conservatives try and debate an issue on this site the left attacks with claims of racism. The Obama administration is the driving force behind the cries of racism (also used against the Clintons in the election) and the class war. Funny though the very administration that cries racism has czars that hate whites, and the very administration that demonizes corporations is in bed with some of the largest corporations in this country’s history. (GE,GM). I don't really see any place left for moderates on this site, example: where would a moderate stand on the Obama chants now taught in PUBLIC schools, or the nationalization of once private companies, or the fact that a US president fired a CEO of a private company. Any post criticizing Obama is labeled as racist. I don't know that people can sit on the fence with the direction OUR country is headed. So weather you were beaten down into submission, walked away waving the white flag, or just want to sit on the fence I say to you, go in peace there will be those who will stay behind to fight for what we believe is great about this country. Good luck and Good Bye.

Well, since you're a liberal Bugs, you can set an example and bash liberals with conservative zeal. You don't need to wait for someone else to do it for you!

BTW- for the record, I know your problem with intellect isn't viewpoint. If you don't want to be attacked, then don't do it yourself. You're hardly a new user.

That "just in" feature would have been fine if it was static. As it was, it was a good idea turned annoying.

I bookmarked this site about the time of the 2004 election, so yours may have been among the comments I read then. I wasn't a member, I just went through the submitted news glanced at some of the comments. It was interesting enough to want to come back to. I was pleasantly surprised to find it revived last year, but gave no thought to joining until I saw an incorrect article the end of December I just had to comment on it.

I think your assessment is mostly correct. It's the history of this site to wax and wane according to political cycle.

You couldn t know how nice it is to find your writing style, again, adorning this site. Several here are articulate, with polished writing skill but, your scathing words are so nicely wrapped for crotchety presentation. (No, no need to present them for me! Please leave them where they ll not impede.:)) You know I can challenge you on being querulous, but you also know I fight fairly. More than that, we both know there are things in the sky more significant, and more worthy of relating, than a president's bow. ;)

Yes, it is a pity. You've let people who I can't call names, do you in. You don't have to step into a 3rd grade playground politics com topics have become, and if you should inadvertently find yourself at the entry, well, you know how to walk off. Now, it's mostly play time on this site, so I'm not here so much, either.

There are always things to discuss, and you still haven't told of your take on the Copenhagen Consensus.

You engage my thinking and challenge my writing, one of so few here to do either. It'd be nice if you weren't such a stranger.

There aren't any liberals on this site that match the conservative zeal for liberal bashing. Conservatives on this site are wholly convinced that their views are mainstream and that any person who opposes them have a problem with intellect, not viewpoint.

If you want more traffic, attack the conservative stalwarts as stringently as you're willing to attack liberals. And never insult new users, commonplace on this webpage.

I think that the problem really lies with election cycles. People are more interested and invested in politics in general right before elections, especially Presidential elections. If there is a lull in activity, it is probably down to that. For liberals, it seems that they perceive things to be about right and thus, are not all riled up and on here posting comments. For conservatives (and libertarians, as usual) things seem very wrong, and there are many things to rail against.

I'm sure the site will be okay. I was on the OLD politics.com way back in 2002-2004, before it died and one of the site members started their own site.

Those recent words of the site's uber-user reflect in a nutshell why I, for one, am not seen 'round these parts any longer. Time is too precious to "debate" with the angry, intolerant, pathetic purveyors of partisan pay-per-post, cut & paste pablum who scorch the politics.com airwaves with all the grace, wisdom and (to the point) honesty of some Savage/Coulter love child.

They finally did me in, and perhaps other moderates who once thought there was life here.

Pity.
