Eww...designer babies(WTF)

Visit KristiAnn's Blog | 11 months ago

So yeah...believe it. There are parents out there who no longer believe that beauty is in the eye of the beholder(you know that lie we tell our children) In fact, scientist have been working on a project for years that will enable you to pick the eye color, the hair color and even the gender. Looks make up a small percentage of a persons appealness and if one was to do such a thing, it would be like teaching your kid that looks are everything. personally I think that its digusting, parents should accept thier children as they are. I understand that doctors can determine if an infant has a disorder and can go back to DNA and reverse it but this is diffrent. when you try to change a person's identity then its like saying that they're not good enough... I dont know. I would love to hear the thoughts of others online. Even those who diagree-I cant wait to see how they might defend thier ignorance

I personally like the randomness of the child bearing process. I don't even want to know the sex until he/she is born. That being said I could care less if technology affords one the ability to ask for a 'designer' baby. Anyone that thinks the ability to cure genetic abnormalities in the womb is the ONLY motivation behind this science is naive. The big money will be in designer babies. There is no guarantee that those receiving potential life-saving assistance from this technology will be able to pay for it. Not true of the designer faction. Plastic surgery saves many from disfiguring scars. The money is in boob jobs, face lifts and tummy tucks. The same with genetic engineering. While the applications will be broad, the money will be narrow. I personally think that while the desire for a 'perfect' baby may be considered shallow, the birth of the child, no matter what, will override any preconceived notions of what a child should be. Parents will love it no matter what.

lol...I did just say "plastic surgery" society... I should have placed "judgemental" society and "discriminatory" society...

We all have both our prejudices and our bias embedded within us...to remove certain ones would be part of that, fpr sure

Are they the ones to replace the ones with supersized boobs and tattoos and piercings (makes me wonder where else they've been drilled) and fangs and red hair and magnets and droopy drawers and scowls? Oh, it isn't fair to leave out the plastic faces in congress and hollywood and everywhere in between. I can understand parents not wanting babies like those.

I've tried to find out, but I can't tell if hell froze over. I don't go into punctuation, I find it hypocritical since some of my earlier work on other websites was very poorly worded and punctuated.

this has been going on for sometime, they can already look by dna what sports or activities their child will most likely be good at and the parents can push them more in those activities...

I remember a movie about this....GATTACA

Parents can't possibly feel that they are doing something wrong when a (plastic surgery) SOCIETY tells them that they are right.

Ahhhh but beauty pageants are ok? When does the search for beauty go too far? When we judge others and reward money based on looks? When we only talk to people that we are physically attracted to? When all of our friends tend to be on the same attractiveness level as us? (I'm guilty of that last one, totally by accident though)

Where does the constant need for beauty begin or end? There are women in their 50's, 60's, and 70's who are still trying to keep the youthful look on their faces. Hugh Hefner surrounds himself with PYT's (pretty young thang's) all the time to make himself feel young and loved. We've taught attractive women that it's ok to be pretty and it's ok to be a gold digger because of it. Older men expect it of a pretty woman in her 20's. Plus we have the age old adage "Prettiness doesn't count when you want to get married" "Men go for the plain Janes, they make the best wives" "If you're too pretty you can't be smart, and if you're too smart you can't be pretty". Ugh there are so many more. Parents wanting super model children are disgusting, but we have to thank society for making them that way.

You won't believe this but, I agree. You shouldn't try to put your baby together like frankenstein. That sends an absolutely wrong message to children. People who want to do this should feel ashamed.

I would only be interested in this if you can increase the babies intelligence so they can grow up to be solid conservatives in spite of all the pressures they will endure through out life to be a brainless liberal.
