About me I have been extremely interested in politics all of my life. I am equally disgusted with the far right or the far left and I feel the only way things will ever get done is when both sides meet somewhere in the middle. I have never missed an election. I am a retired school teacher and coach and I love retirement, although in today's world I must learn to budget to survive.
Political Role Models My favorite politician was Franklin Roosevelt. He led us during the most difficult period of time in the world's history. He pulled us out of a depression and guided us through a world war. There has been no one since, to equal his leadership. I am impressed with Barack Obama and I wish him the best of luck as President. The problems facing us today are similar to those faced by Franklin Roosevelt and it will take someone great to deal with all of it. The mess that was left for President Obama will require a lot of action on his part and it remains to be seen as to what will happen.
Important News to Me This healthcare mess is a real important issue. I oppose forcing all Americans to purchase health insurance or get a fine! I am not interested in making the insurance companies wealthy. I am more in favor of a system whereby every aspect of healthcare is handled by the government. In regard to healthcare, the free market system has priced healthcare way beyond anyone's ability to afford it, except for the very wealthy. I know of a person who has a policy whereby he pays $1,100 a month premium, has a $5,000 deductable and the company pays out on a 80%-20% basis. I told him he just as well cancel this policy. He told me he couldn't because he had accumulated a $300,000 lifetime savings and he would lose it all if something happened to his health. Now isn't that sad. I know of another situation whereby a guy who had no health insurance went to the emergency room with a small cut in his head. It required two staples and a tetanus shot and he was charged $1,200. How ludicrous!
