Remember Remember the 5th of November

remember remember the 5th of november, 2008, the day obama came on stage and gave his victory speech for the presidency of the united states of america. in doing so history was made as he was the first black president of the united states, the third youngest president ever elected behind JFK and Clinton, ended the era of failed "conservatism" of George W Bush and more importantly, has brought many in the nation and around the world back to looking at america with pride.
ive been going back and forth with people who vote republican and dont like obama, think he's all hype and doesnt think he can bring "change"... what they fail to realize is that, if President Elect Barack Hussein Obama does absolutely NOTHING once he gets into office.. if he just pushes papers around, makes no real policy changes and just rides the term out on cruise control, he has still made Change in this country and around the world. the fact that he exists and he won the election is change.
the simple fact that americans together were in the streets celebrating, the fact that people around the country feel pride once again in america, that people around the world look up at the united states as a country where anything is possible again. where a man, with a white mother and black father, raised by a single parent and her parents.. a man with a muslim birth name with no royal leinage or pedigree or wealthy parents.. a man who wasnt given the world but worked hard to get the world in the span of 47 years and become president is change. the canidates in this election, john mccain from a long line of military admirals and generals had the pedigree... hillary clinton, a woman who was married to the president of the united states, who wouldnt have been where she got if it wasnt for the clinton name... previous presidents george w bush, son of a president/senator... george hw bush, son of a wealthy businessman prescott bush... even mitt romney came from a political and wealthy upbringing.
obama just being there and just existing and winning sparks a level of hope and promise and gives many american's the drive and real thought that they can be anything they want to be if they try hard enough... and now we have a point of reference. never underestimate the power of one man to make the country feel good about itself, even if its just with speeches and presence... hell thats why reagan was so good. it certainly wasnt his policies (we could go into him abandoning the marine barracks in lebanon, trading hostages for weapons and the whole drug into the cities things, but thats for another blog )
and in nations around the world, people are once again seeing america as a leader, a country where everything is possible. change has already happened even if this man does nothing of substance in the white house and thats something that cannot be taken away. at this moment, america has changed for the better in the hearts and minds of the majority of people around this country (at least 52% of the voting public) and in the hearts and minds of the majority of the people around the world... all of that without obama even taking the oath of office.
