Economist - So long school choice. The Washington DC voucher program's funding was shamefully struck from the president's proposed budget. Now, after intense pressure, Obama will propose setting aside enough money for all 1,716 students in the voucher program to continue until they graduate, but he would allow no new students to join the program. This is not a win!

Apparently private, high caliber education is only for him and his kids.

That is pretty bad. It shows how special interests can demand that politicians implement bad policies or kill promising ones. It is certainly not because a Senator from Ill. (Durbin) decided that his kids can go to a private school and not the poor kids leaving in DC but because of the powerful union who see these programs as potentially strong competing alternatives.
