I am hoping that the UN will hold MANY discussions on the situation.

As it is mentioned in the article "[b]oth the US and Britain are pushing to secure a ceasefire, but Russia and China have opposed such a move." So it is not the UN which is the problem, well not its administration .. It seems that Russia and China do not see eye to eye with the UN policy analysts .. and the US and Britain .. and most of the world .. So unless, these parties can agree, I guess the UN has no choice but to organize MANY discussions ..
