At its heart, racism is about fear. People don't like fear or its cousin, anxiety, and will develop all sorts of bizarre stories, fantasies, etc. to either avoid, suppress, or "cope" with it.

It's not even about that. It's about someone looking down on someone else, or thinking that they are better than someone else because they believe the hype that the media feeds them instead of actually taking the time to look past the stereotypes. That's all. Just because it's on TV doesn't mean that it's real, if that's the case where is Santa Claus, the Easter Bunny and the Tooth Fairy? Should I be ignorant enough to believe that they still do exist?

It's not being racist...And African's aren't born here, if they were they'd be American's, so therefore I don't have to be nice. Also if the majority of the women didn't look down on me (because I'm a Black American) and if the majority of the men didn't look at me like I was a piece of meat I wouldn't have a problem with them. The argument that you're making about the Soviet Union is the same nonsense that George F. Kennan and John Foster Dulles made during that time. The Soviet Union was very much a hideous monster of state tyranny, but it did not have the power that our government ascribed to it. The Soviets were far more afraid of the U.S. military than the other way around. Their biggest threat was nuclear weapons, but the mutually assured destruction principle canceled that out. They were not "taking over the world." In fact, our security was more at risk BECAUSE of American involvement in Vietnam. And the government of South Vietnam was almost as hideous as its northern neighbor. Millions of Southern Vietnamese sympathized and fought for the Viet Cong against the U.S. military. Vietnam became completely Communist after our military withdrew and lo and behold the entire region did not fall to the Red Menace.
Regarding Gitmo - you're mistaken. It was not reparations for the Spanish-American War. It was an imperial land grab by the government of the United States, nothing more. Our government took over after Spain no longer had control. Our government essentially gave itself a "99-year lease" (in 1903) on Guantanamo bay. So, even by that absurd measurement, the time has expired.

Yes too many I have known were college students, nurses and doctors, real under achievers and they were very thankful for being here. As for not being hired at McDs if you fire the Mexican you don't have to worry about getting a lawsuit for racism, which is standard practice after firing an American Black.

Actually I don't like Black Africans so I've never really taken much time to talk to them, not to mention it's hard getting past the really heavy accents. They come over here and watch too much TV and form their opinions about Black Americans as being lazy, ghetto, baby-making machines instead of actually trying to get to know what being a Black American is all about. But then again the vast majority of Black Americans think that Black African's are HIV carrying, Malaria infected, overtly religious zealots that are sell-outs only looking for a green card. So to that I say to each his own. They don't realize that the struggles we have are the same until someone insults them for the very first time, or they can't get hired at McD's cause their accent is too thick but they watch the Spanish person get the very same job without knowing any English at all, until that happens they don't get it.

I actually think the laws that make equal treatment happen are condescinding and repetitive. I do not think that me being a woman makes me weaker than a man, but I also don't think that forcing a man to run a 7 minute mile to prove he'll be a good solider or a good cop is the way to go either. Just like I don't think that it's fair that minority's often get stuck in crappy neighborhoods because they have crappy jobs because that's all they can afford, then they end up with crappy schools with crappy teachers who only care about getting a paycheck so they don't teach and they slide those who can't hack it through school. Fantasia Borino grew up during the whole no child left behind years but yet instill she's illiterate? Why? Wasn't Bush supposed to nip that in the bud?
And as for the Natives we take their land only to give them crappy pieces of property mainly in OK, one place where no one wants to live, is totally landlocked, not an interesting travel destination, and basically had to be built from the ground up with no easy way to get resources to them? Looking at the stats on poverty of the Natives is disproportionate, the majority of that is looking at those that are 100% not the mixed ones. The census counts the mixed ones in a whole different category which is why the Native American population only makes up like 1.4% of the total American population and it's shrinking every year. But back to the stats, those who claim 100% are usually elderly and still living on the reservations and it seems like a majority when it's really not. According to the office of Indian Affairs anyone who is 1/16th can claim benefits from being a Native American, well if the total American population actually looked into their backgrounds and claimed themselves as full blooded then the numbers would probably overtake the ever-climbing Hispanic population and then you would have a better idea of how many who claim to be Native are actually living in poverty.
