Submitted by Supreme Arthur | 4 months ago

Wall Street Journal - The Taliban have gained the upper hand in Afghanistan, the top American commander there said, forcing the U.S. to change its strategy in the eight-year-old conflict by increasing the number of troops in heavily populated areas like the volatile southern city of Kandahar, the insurgency's spiritual home.

Think you're getting your wish come true?

Situation:

For two years your state has been at war. In a string of disastrous battles your armies have been repeatedly annihilated, particularly a few weeks ago where an eight division force was crushed and around 60,000 of your soldiers were slain. That defeat brought your KIA (Killed-in-Action) to over 100,000. The enemy is now advancing on your capitol. Your allies are deserting you. Foreign states previously neutral have now declared war on you in support of your enemy. You don't even have an army at this point in any position to intervene in the enemy's advance on your capitol.

What do you do?

Situation B:

In two years of battles your armies have been repeatedly defeated by an out-numbered, Raggedy-Andy army led by a seemingly unbeatable general. He has trounced everyone you have sent against him. Recently, just one month ago, in a staggering blunder one of your most aggressive generals lost faith in himself in the middle of a major battle and was defeated while on the verge of a brilliant victory. Somewhere around 150,000 of your soldiers have fallen thus far. The opposing general has now led his army into your territory, clearly maneuvering against your very capitol.

What do you do?
