CNN - The world's population is forecast to hit 7 billion in 2011, the vast majority of its growth coming in developing and, in many cases, the poorest nations. A staggering 97 percent of global growth over the next 40 years will happen in Asia, Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean. India projected to overtake China as most populous country.

It is hard to fathom what 7 billion people means. How much does the world population increase in a day? A week? A month? A year?

That's a lot of people! Though, there will still be many underpopulated portions of the globe since the weight of the population increase will be in the tropics, which is a rather thin band around the globe. These same areas will also be the one's likely heavily impacted by global warming, increasing the problems at hand.
