We need reform that has meaningful impact on the insurance industry. The barriers of entry are very high in the insurance industry to promote competition within the private sector unless there are new models in Health Insurance industry that are introduced which are different from existing HMOs and PPOs.

We are slaves to insurance companies because of the lack of competition! This is the case because of - wait for it...government regulation. The HMO act of 1973 is the real culprit behind the link between employer and health insurance - the system that allows insurance companies to avoid real risk and competition. This is what we have to target to get health care costs under control as well as place decisions back with doctors and patients. Having the state take things over is likely to only make things worse.

The problem is that the politicians criticizing Obama's plan are the same ones who are offering solutions that continue to prop up big pharma and the insurance industry.

Anyone who wants to support status quo either doesn't know what this health care system is all about or is part of the interest groups from insurance companies. We are slaves of health insurance companies which create rules that are beneficial to them and care little about the patients.

Essentially non-profit co-op is similar to public option - just another flavor of it. Where would that non-profit draw its funding? From the tax-payer money.
