Al Jazeera - Seventeen million people are eligible to vote on Thursday, with 6,500 polling stations open in 364 districts across the country. But even before presidential and provincial polls opened at 02:30 GMT, four loud explosions were heard in the early hours of Thursday in Kandahar and one in the capital, Kabul.

The elections will go forward, it is going to happen. History in the making. It may not be without a measure of resistance and conflict, but the question is what would be voter turn out? Would the reported 17 million registered voters go out to vote or would the already reporting attacks and threats intimidate people to stay home?

I wonder, should people be scared away from the voting polls, would a second election be called and even so would it change the outcome? Either way the underlining problem in whatever direction the election takes is the issue of government corruption.

In the midst of these uncertainty and fragile state is the brave people in it, especially those who would against all odds vote in an attempt to claim and piece what is remain of the country together.

Am actually optimistic for the Afghans, this election may be there way out to achieving a peaceful state and prosperity...

Lets wait and see...
