Only the public. And, sadly, they've not been fulfilling their role for a long, long time. The press is also a huge player here, who is supposed to keep the government in check. They "checked out" a long time ago, too. We get the government we deserve.

What irks me is there is some basic steps that could be taken that both sides would agree to and make the system better. liberals will not give and I have not seen a conservative plan. i hear a bunch of political crapz rolling off the conservatives but no plan unless I missed something. I keep hearing there is one but couldnt tell you what it is and as you know I try to pay attention.

Too bad the reverse is true and Pelosi is an idiot. Real competition, not from the tax-eating, market distorting government is what will diminish the power of the insurance companies. Real risk of loss is what is needed, and this will never be the case when health insurance is anchored to employers.
