Medicare officials recently proposed changes that could increase payments for some primary care services but reduce payments to many specialists. Cardiologists would be especially hard hit, with cuts of more than 20 percent in payments for electrocardiograms and 12 percent for heart stent procedures.
"'Cuts of this magnitude could cripple cardiology practices and threaten access to services for millions of patients,' said Dr. John C. Lewin, chief executive of the American College of Cardiology.
"Mr. Obama has been unable to dispel the concerns of older Americans because the health care bills in Congress are long, complex and evolving.
"Moreover, if a bill becomes law, no one can say for sure how it may be applied or extended. The 1965 law that created Medicare prohibited 'any federal interference' in 'the practice of medicine or the manner in which medical services are provided,' or in the operation of any institution providing health care.
"Sara Rosenbaum, a professor of health law and policy at George Washington University, called this 'a majestic message from Congress about how it expected the Medicare program to be run.'
"But the meaning of that guarantee has shrunk as Medicare officials and Congress have set more detailed standards for doctors, hospitals, nursing homes and others in Medicare."
The last three graphs are particularly prescient because advocates of expanded government always claim their proposals won't have dire consequences such as expanded government bureaucracy and regulation. Then when those consequences come about as predicted by critics, the program advocates invent scapegoats, usually in the private sector, to blame for the problems.

The first shoe dropped this weekend as President Obama announced another $313 billion in cuts to health care programs for the elderly and the poor. He has no other options because we are out of money. He is taking hospitals and other providers at their word that they will reduce costs. That's a problem because the record shows they can't deliver.

Disagree? Just read the versions of health care legislation in the House. One key proposal is to mandate an "essential benefit package" for every private insurance policy sold in the United States. Currently, individuals and employers usually make these coverage decisions. This legislation creates a new federal Health Benefits Advisory Committee that would decide instead.
our quility of healthcare is very good. i agree. but the insurance companies don't let most americans experince that health care. do you remeber that lady who die in the waiting room???? do you know WHY???? she was an american citzen and since she didn't have health care she had to wait. while she waited she DIED!!!!! tell her family how good our healthcare is. go tell her family and see what happens to you. you need to watch more channels then fox news.

See T1 I read most of the bill. I did not tune into CNN (Clinton News Network) or MSLSD for that matter. I pick and choice who I trust on FOX as well.
The American system is very good. It could be better. There are NUMEROUS steps that could be taken NEXT week that would be bipartisan. Congress and the Senate could post their highest pecentage of YEA votes in our countries history. But this is not what this is about and people like to still do not get. You and rossettieismyname just want it done. You have 100% faith that THIS government is going to give you a better system.
You want your government who has a hard enough time running the post office which just declared last week that they are broke. Cannot pay creditors. Social Security is broke. i have a crazy question for you? does the insurance company ration care now? do they denie service? Do they tell people that they hit their cap and the insurance company will no longer cover them. Why do people like you seem to be fine with this. i don't understand. WHY!!! But you and the rest of your buddies are so scare of somthing that is alrady happening in america. right now someone with health insurance is being told that their proceedure will not be cover becaues of a preexsiting condition, or that they hit their cap.
