Is Speech A Threat?

Submitted by Luke Duke | 3 months ago

The Atlantic - A loaded gun is different than simple speech, because it carries a much greater potential for deadly violence (especially when that gun is a semi-automatic assault rifle). So how is the simple act of talking about killing the president - as distinguished from a material plot to do so - that different from guns at rallies?

Seriously Teiki? Every President would get assassinated. Bad idea, very bad idea.

*sigh* I need 10cc of obvious reality check, stat.

Do yourself a favor and google "Death of a President" then get back to us about the responsibility of freedom of speech.

I'm all for the right to bear arms, but there are instances where they should be banned. Same as yelling fire in a crowded theater, or bomb on a plane. You're just an a*****e if you do it.

As for guns near the President, so long as they have permits and are legally owned and displayed, I have no issues. You can bet those people have the attention of the Secret Service, so what's the problem?

I don't even think assassination was in the cards. Arizona is an open-carry state...meaning you can legally walk around carrying a loaded gun. They did it to prove a point...point or not they are idiots for letting them do it. I am pro-guns but I am anti-idiot.

It doesn't matter how much you disagree with a President, assassination is never the answer.

I am in complete agreement with you Seven, however it does make a point of how crazy Obama and the dems have gotten that would bring people out to do such things.

Hell people didn't even do that with Bush or Clinton and there were strong feelings against both of them.

I am a conservative and I disagree heavily with Obama, however this is plain stupid. Guns should not be permitted anywhere near our President other than by those who protect him.
