It is much easier to forge documents/votes than it is to silence people. Unlike Iran, Afghanistan has a far greater number of outside observers and outside media resources to run stories.

what surprises me is how these tribal leaders actually got the word out because if Karzai was able to forge 23,000 ballots, he should be able to stop these people from talking.

Is anyone even a little bit surprised at this? I supposed I'm more surprised that it took this long to make the allegations and that only 23,900 votes were forged. But then again, perhaps I'm being too cynical.
