That's the right attitude. One thing I think we can all agree on is that there needs to be some changes in health care costs.
Democrats think (falsely IMO) that price controls and mandatory insurance are the way to do it. My problem with those is that price controls are harmful to a market supply, and that insurance is the main reason we have the costs we have now.
Republicans think that removing over-regulation, freeing up state restrictions to open competition, and torte reform. I agree with those ideas, but even then the changes need to be gradual and too much at one time could have negative unintended consequences.

I look at nursing as a job, when someone asks me what I do I say I'm a hunter, fisherman, and falconer. I still want and try to provide the best care I can and this bill will hurt patients and taxpayers.

Actually, I have been having some misgivings about the bill. The mind-set that any healthcare bill is better than none just doesn't feel right anymore. The possibly that it may compromise the care that seniors receive is the main reason. It would not affect me yet, but it will affect my patients and some of my relatives.

I agree, it is also very mentally taxing and in relation to a doctor's pay extremely underpaid. The thing is how do you separate the "greedy" to tax from those who worked hard to achieve? This bill is actually supported by the insurance companies, so how can you think it is a good thing. They are now working to legalize illegal immigrants to keep their pledge of not giving free health care to illegals. Read what little is out there in the bill and I can't see how you a nurse or anyone can support it.
Medicare and Medicaid pay only a percentage of the cost of care and hospital costs go up and the insured pay an inflated amount to cover the deficit the government programs cause. Add 30 million to Medicaid and the cost of health care will go up with insurance premiums doing so too. They are cutting 500 billion from medicare and hospitals are saying the may not treat Medicare and Medicaid recipients. It is not a cruel decision just a fiscal one to be able to stay solvent. Is that your idea of care?
Tax business and they pass the costs to everyone. This bill will not contain costs just increase them for EVERYONE.

I was not speaking for you, but I knew you would understand where I was coming from. Nursing is a profession in its own right, and contrary to what PW was saying to me, we are not failures who aspired to be doctors but couldn't make the grade. That would be like saying he wanted to be the CEO of Cigna, but had to settle for owning a small local business. Also, you can attest that nursing is not a job for the lazy. Sometimes we walk the halls until our feet burn, working 12 and sometimes 16 hr shifts. Then, even if we are about to drop from fatigue in our tracks, we have the discipline to trek back to the med room or clean utility to get another needle or secondary tubing if we think we may have contaminated the one we have. Yes, I agree with you about the CEO's. I said basically the same thing in the post he so rudely replied to. His take on that was I was dissatisfied, lazy, and failed to make it as a doctor. He accused me of being emotional; it was ok for him to insult me, however.

Speaking for myself now, nursing pay isn't all that great unless you do the travel bit which has it's pitfalls(away from home, time lost between contracts, and missing family and friends). I would like to make more and was starting a travel nurse company with my brother and it was put on hold directly due to actions the demos did on the Medicare RAC. 6 months of work and quite a bit of money and nothing to show for it.
The hospital CEO's and board members are oppressing you whether you know it or not, most big hospital (200 beds) are making a million or more with lots of perks. Most of the CEOs don't know anything about medicine and are strictly business oriented and think nurses are a dime a dozen and are no better than serfs.
If I was making a large income through my business I would be no better or worse a person and would be putting in long hours to get it going. Why should someone tax severely people with good ideas and hard work to make money? The more I make the more people I will employ. That's how the economy gets better and works best, more taxes just mean less people employed.

You have fallen into the leftwing version of hating buisness.I own a small buisness, and belive me,no one is getting rich,no one is oppressing others to make a fortune. Small buisness are the ones taking the BEST care of employees and vendors. We will not hire someone or add to the employee base unless and until we can offer a good livable wage with benefits. The assumptions of buisness owners perpetuated by the left is a miserable untruth and deliberate attempt to demonize anyone who is trying to make it without the handout of the government. We offer great medical benefits and a good wage.It is our decision to do so and no one else has anything to say about it.We put the time, effort, and money into getting a buisness up and running and having someone try to demonize that is simply uninformed hated of those willing to take that risk. Most people EARN their money, unlike the assumptions you make that anyone other than you or other lefties must be stealing it. It is a small.closed mind that makes these assumptions and labels the heart and soul of American enterprise as such.Try becoming informed and not just spew the vile of the left toward those that have been carrying the water of this nations economy for the last 2 hundred years.....by the way..in just the last year the corporate fees here have increased 1500%,the governemnt has sent us letters stating they have the right to issue a SEARCH WARRANT to inspect this buisness to make sure we are recycling in the gov. accepted manner. That is gov. doing everything it can to destroy buisness and make it near impossible for anyone to make a living.Try condemning the gov. for it's assinine view of buisness and free enterprise for a change,it is them destroying the ability to provide jobs and benefits to the US citizen, not us...ps..I look forward to the day when the gov. shows up here with their search warrant to check out my recycling bins.Guess what they are going to be told to do??

Stop insulting me. You're (not "your") stupid and can't spell. I'm just saying you fat cats are greedy and will never get enough to make you happy. What makes you think I ever wanted to be a doctor? Nursing is a profession in itself; the next step is not being a doctor. Ask Good Ole Boy. A lazy person would never make it in nursing. It's hard work, but rewarding. I'm not dissatisfied with my job. You were bragging about owning your own company, and I was making a point that the only value people like you place on a person is the work, blood, and sweat you can squeeze out of them for as little as you can get by with paying them. Nobody hands me anything, fella. I work hard for everything I get. The pay is decent, too. Ask Good Ole Boy. The difference between some of you and people like me and Good Ole Boy is that we EARN our money and don't get rich by oppressing others by having them work and make the money for us.

You sound like a liberal commercial. You are brain washed that is obvious. You also paint yourself as one that is following liberals to get everyone health care.
Your last sentance is a contradiction. Your respected but are a robot. That makes alot of sense.
Should your company make 1% profit. Would that make you happy. Hey I have an idea why don't you find another job where you are ultra respected and they make you an owner. Oh that's right your lazy and liberal. You need someone to come hand it to you.
Maybe you should move. health Care proffessional make great dollars here in Chicago. If you move away from the idiots. People who live in California. You might do better.

You insinuated that I know nothing about government. I do. I just know very little about the greed that runs our country via corporate America. I believe money is a good thing, as it can be used to help both our families and our fellow man. However, the LOVE of money is the root of all evil. Those are not my words, BTW. I have nothing else to say. I need to get ready for work. Even though I have a license and am a respected professional, I am just a drone or worker bee for a corporation that cares nothing about me except the work I can produce.

Sometimes I drop out of the conversation because I have to rest so I can work. I'm the only nurse you know who supports the bill? How many do you know? As for what I learned about government, I actually made all A's in Civics class in high school. I will try to be modest, but I will say anyway that I made the highest grade in Civics that year in the entire school; and yes, it was a very large high school. That of course would never prepare me for this small blog where three or four extreme right wingers dominate the entire discourse, and continuously pat each other on the back because they agree. I should have known where I had ventured, however, because all the ads on here consist of pictures of Newt and Colter. It's so unlike the mainstream of America, one would think it was a different world. I must agree with you about the Democrats, however. They have a majority, but many of them seem to have no spine.

Hers on economics lesson for you. These people should be against Obamacare. Anyone with a brain in their head would be against it. People like you have NO idea whats in it but yet you support it blindly. It's funny and sad.
I know a lot of you voted for President Obama. A lot of you voted for Democrats across the board. Whether you voted out of support for some specific policies, or because you liked his slogans, you need to learn one very valuable lesson from this election. Elections have consequences. You might have thought it would be cool to have a president who looks like you; or a president who is young, has a buff body, and speaks eloquently when there's a teleprompter in the neighborhood. Maybe you liked his promises to tax the rich. Maybe you believed his promise not to raise taxes on people earning less than a certain amount. Maybe you actually bought into his promise to cut taxes on millions of Americans who actually don't pay income taxes in the first place. Whatever the reason .. your vote had consequences; and here they are.
Bottom line? I'm not taking this hit alone. As soon as the Democrats manage to get their tax increases on the books, I'm going to take steps to make sure that my family isn't affected. When you own the business, that is what you're allowed to do. I built this business over a period of 23 years, and I'm not going to see my family suffer because we have a president and a congress who think that wealth is distributed rather than earned. Any additional taxes, of whatever description, that President Obama and the Democrats inflict on this business will come straight out of any funds I have set aside for expansion or pay and benefit increases. Any plans I might have had to hire additional employees for new stores will be put aside. Any plans for raises for the people I now have working for me will be shelved. Year-end bonuses might well be eliminated. That may sound rough, but that's the reality.
You're going to continue to hear a lot of anti-wealth rhetoric out there from the media and from the left. You can chose to believe what you wish .. ..but when it comes to Carrington Automotive you will know the truth. The books are open to any of you at any time. I have nothing to hide. I would hope that other small business owners out there would hold meetings like this one, but I know it won't happen that often. One of the lessons to be learned here is that taxes .... all taxes ... and all regulatory costs that are placed on businesses anywhere in this country, will eventually be passed right on down to individuals; individuals such as yourself. This hasn't been about admonishing anyone and it hasn't been about issuing threats. This is part of the education you should have received in the government schools, but didn't. Class is now dismissed.

Interesting article. I've always thought American ingenuity means that we don't need a public option. For example, the idea of a health exchange that can cross state lines will increase competition (hopefully!). The public option seems more like pandering ... but then again, I'm always also wondering why so many industrialized nations don't go for that route, seems like health care is just such a delicate issue to people all over the world.

Insurance: A system which pecuniary indemnity is guaranteed by on party to another in certain contingencies, as death, accident, damage, etc.-Websters Dictionary
Does that sound like something that is a RIGHT? Something that every single citizen MUST HAVE? And what of the various studies that say people with insurance pay MORE than people without? And, BTW, you don't have to have insurance. Many, many hospitals will set up payment plans.
