Interesting policy. I haven't heard about this, but I see it as another waste of DOD's money (as far as distributing free meds/etc).

I think the reason they may have used this type of vessel is that it has on-shore capabilities. In other words, if the hurricane destroyed the harbor or if there are a lot of sunken boats (usually happens in a hurricane), then the ship's beach-landing craft are capable of delivering the needed medical supplies without having a neeed for a deep water port.

I just don't understand why WE are the ones who have to pay for these "free" meds when this wasted money could have been used on sick kids inside OUR shores...
