I'm not aware of Iran's oil production output and how it affect's the world economy however sanctions have had affects in the past on governments, economy and people. The only losers are the people caught in the middle of the power play.
It amazes me how many lost centuries, decades, years, months, weeks, days, hours, minutes and seconds have literally been wasted never to be reclaimed over ignorant statements from places such as Iran "IRAN is calling for no nations that support Israel be allowed to purchase oil."
When I was in grade school I heard the same crap; "so and so won't play ball by our rules so don't share your twinkie with him at lunch". Now how affective was that? Yup, just another ignorant human being spouting off to make himself feel less inadequate in a free world where his rules and paradigm of life do not mean everyone else must be wrong.

Our liberal friends are pushing for better fuel economy and here is the result.

I am all for fuel economy yet to be taxed by the mile leaves the entire country one big toll road.
How smart they are to try and do this to us? Just as people cut back on gas guzzlers to try and save money and help the environment they will do the same in the distance they travel putting us back in the same potential position as we are with the tax.
What I think will happen is simple. The tax will be assesed with the auto registration based on the economy of the car (fuel efficeincy) and the cars impact on the road itself (weight) then everything will be in place for the tax to be manipulated at their bidding and people will still have an incentive to drive smaller cars.
Just a thought.

It's funny, IRAN is calling for no nations that support Israel be allowed to purchase oil. I'd love to see that reversed and all nations that understand IRAN as a threat to world piece refuse to buy oil from them. Watch how quickly the Iranian "government" will implode.

I didn't mean to suggest you said forcing people in to small cars was part of your response. My apology, It's the government that will do that in their attempt to "cure the environment" from CO2.

Nice choice for a Blog-on name.
You present a couple thoughts which are compelling. Did I suggest forcing small cars in my response? No. I suggested a compelling incentive for allowing both large and small vehicles to co-exist. As for the death rate and injury of those who drive small cars I have to agree 100%, therefore we have common interest in making the roads safer.
I lived in California for 33 years, all I can say is try living in the midwest and then talk about unsafe and self centered drivers, e.g. kansas.
As for the speed limit I do agree also that as low as 55mph is truly the answer based on current engine and transimission technology.
Yur thoughts a truly appreciated.

I don't agree with the concept of forcing small cars on people, it was tried during the Carter years and the death rate and injury rate among those is small cars sky rocketed. I'm only for this concept because it makes sense and is a way to grow ourselves out of our debt. I absolutely do not buy man made Global Warming and CO2 as the agent. As to car pool lanes, we have them here in CA, they actually cause more congestion. I believe we should ban them all together. Why should a mom and her kids get to fly by when I'm sitting there trying to get to work? It's another failed liberal idea. How about lowering the speed limit back to 65mph?

I agree once again that alternative energy sources are absolutely critical to our future. I personally do not have an answer. Let's hope the next four years can point us in the right direction.
Side Note:
As for incentive to drive smaller cars I think all carpool lanes should be converted into "small car" lanes #1 to provide safety for those which choose to trade comfort for economy and second to provide incentive for people like myself who would love to drive a smart car yet feel unsafe given the large SUV's being driven. I do not knock SUV's or their drivers, I would feel safer not having to deal with the uncertainty of the mix on the road.

Darwin: I didn't mean to imply right away, let's put scientists to work with government funds to find new solutions. Gas and Oil it comes from is obviously killing the world and there won't be a planet left for my granddaughter if we don't start now to fix the problem. There are other forms of fuel that will be developed under Obama that Bush wasn't into.

What and excellent idea! But I think that would cause more wars, and wars are not good except for the military industrial complex. A more measured approach should be considered.

100% agree. Stop buying gas and prompt others to do the same. sell your cars and prompt others to do the same. Stop heating your home and prompt others to do the same.
The bottom line here is that the economy has afforded yourself and others a life comfortable enough to be able to sit back and try and save the world.
Don't just try and use the color green to save the world. Shut off 100% of your dependency on that which is not green and prompt others to do so as well and your point will have consequence.
