LENT
You are correct. although if really looked at, Lent could more be described as a 40 day ritual than a holiday.
The Bible mentions nothing of Lent. Jesus never mentioned it (or any other religious observance like it, including the mass), nor did Paul, Peter, James or John. Lent is a completely Roman Catholic invention. This is actually just another Roman Catholic ritual manipulating the masses.
The Tuesday before Ash Wednesday is Mardi Gras. Mardi Gras observers originally participated in many ungodly and immoral activities all of which are intended to satisfy the flesh. Why do these folks party so much? Because for the next 40 days they will be observing a religious ritual that requires they deny their flesh.

This guy was bored and probably going through a divorce. One of his wifes complanints is he doesn't go to church.
This tired man begins with Jesus would perfer Santa over Christians celebrating his birth. Claims it's closer to the bibles words than people celebrating a date they are clueless about. He is all over the map with his column and doesn't know what he truely wants to say.
Alot of good comes out of Christmas wether you celebrate or not. My family goes every Christmas morning and feeds the hungry at a soup kitchen. The people who are fed at the soup kitchen are not only christians but people from all religions get hungry and show up. My place of worship "Willowcreek.org" is one of the largest churchs in the country and in the Christmas season alone they collect thousands of dollars to feed and cloth the poor. During the year the feed 10's of thousnads of people.
I LOVE the christian bias on this site. It makes me laugh because the attitudes expressed have never been seen in my christian circles. Bad apples fall from all trees and to say christian apples is what is wrong in society today is a laugher.
It's great when a liberal like Pierre attacks religion. A guy like most liberals wants equality and all kinds of personel rights but when a christian is mentioned it's all push your GOD on me instead of all the good that is done throughout the world.
More than the UN or anyone else, the Christians take care of humanity.

I disagree 100%
I am PROUD to be a christian who believes in GOD and Jesus Christ and pray for all you who do not.

QUOTE: "devised to manipulate the masses...name one holiday that is celebrated by fact and not story telling...cancer..."
"At that time Jesus said, "I praise you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because you have hidden these things from the wise and learned, and revealed them to little children. Yes, Father, for this was your good pleasure. 'All things have been committed to me by my Father. No one knows the Son except the Father, and no one knows the Father except the Son and those to whom the Son chooses to reveal him.'" -- Gospel of Matthew Chapter 25
[Jesus said] "I am the good shepherd, and know my [sheep], and am known of mine. As the Father knoweth me, even so know I the Father: and I lay down my life for the sheep . . . Then came the Jews round about him, and said unto him, How long dost thou make us to doubt? If thou be the Christ, tell us plainly. Jesus answered them,
'I told you, and ye believed not: the works that I do in my Father's name, they bear witness of me. But ye believe not, because ye are not of my sheep, as I said unto you. My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any [man] pluck them out of my hand."
To truly celebrate Christmas one has to belong to "the fold" otherwise it is meaningless and all myths and nonsense.

Your thoughts expressed are spot on.
This is another holiday devised to manipulate the masses into subordination as a rituaistic expression propegating the belief that a god walked among the poor by emaculate conception.
Story telling was the past generations answer to bloging. Problem is that so few were exposed to the truth, or absense of truth that the cancer was allowed to spread through the weak minded, and as we all know, perception is reality for the weak minded and strong minded alike.
Name one holiday that is celebrated by fact and not story telling and you will see a different approach to the true meaning.
