McConnell Puts the Brakes on Stimulus Plan McConnell Puts the Brakes on Stimulus Plan

Submitted by CrashTack | 1 year ago

Washington Post - Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) voiced skepticism today about the emerging economic stimulus plan, applying a brake to Democratic plans to quickly pass up to $850 billion in spending and tax cuts soon after President-elect Barack Obama's Jan. 20 inauguration.

"As of right now, Americans are left with more questions than answers about this unprecedented government spending, and I believe the taxpayers deserve to know a lot more about where it will be spent before we consider passing it," McConnell said in a statement, which will be publicly issued later today.

It's about time Republicans start acting like Republicans and not a bunch of left wing Democrats. There is nobody in the august body of our leaders that has a clue to a way out, they won't own up to causing it, they must be held accountable, major FBI probes and jail time. Enough is enough.

You probably haven't heard much about it because the GOP's resistance will be Potemkin-thin.

Will they want to be seen as the grinch that steals the stimulus? In disarray and too busy trying to suck and blow on economic theory at the same time, I'd say...not likely.

It's surprising we haven't seen more about this.

All we've been hearing is how big, when and who will be the winners, while the "if" has been forgotten. Obama is still subject to the checks and balances (though not by a lot), and the filibuster is of course still fair game.
