I used to hate Christians because of the Christian Crusades. Then I learned the history that preceded those battles. The Crusades wasn't so much a fight just for Religious Political gain, but also to gain relief from growing subjugation by Muslim.

In the Sudan muslims have been killing Christians and animists for years and even taken them as slaves which the mainstream news fails to report and this is happening now not 800 years ago. In Iraq, Pakistan, Indonesia, Malaysia, Ethiopia, and Kenya Christians are being killed by muslims trying to eliminate them, NOW not 800 years ago.

GOB: For the sake of civil, productive debate, please do not make assumptions about who I am or where I've lived.

Also, I think joking about beheadings dishonors the victims.

Yes the Babtists and Lutherans have been sending suicide bombers into schools all over the country. The Mormans just beheaded a harlot that had the audacity to be raped after leaving the supermarket. I see what you mean.

The Qur'an shares a number of literary commonalities with the Judeo-Christian bible, mind you.

GOB, I've read the Koran. And the bible, too. a literal reading of the Koran is just as frightening as a literal reading of the bible...

But, that is not what we are talking about when we say "Islam" or "Christianity." Followers of both religions believe in peace. Each has a violent fringe, too.

Read the Koran, I hate to say it all the time and I'm not belittling anyone in saying it. There is a concerted effort of the media and muslims to cast a kind view on Islam.

Islam is a religion of intolerance and hate. All one needs to do is read their holy book and you will see what I am talking about.

It is also more than just a religion. When their nubers in an are are great enough they force Islamic law and sharia on the poulation. women become chattel and other religion suffer greatly if allowed at all.

Hepsy: You make an interesting point - Christianity does not promote abortion clinic bombings. Yes, true. Nor does Islam promote the killing of women and children.

This is a fundamentalist reading, not common practice.

There is a lot of common ground between Islam and Christianity...differences between sects (ex: Quaker vs. Catholics) are arguably greater than differences across religions...

Some examples of similarities:

1. There is one true God
2. One should sacrifice for God
3. Importance on giving to the poor (self-sacrifice for/trough God)
4. Shared belief in prophets
5. Belief in paradise/heaven and hell

Christianity does not promote abortion clinic bombings.
Except for its outer fringe, Mormons do not condone illegal marriage.

Islam may not require its followers to be suicide bombers, but followers who adhere to Islam will delcare jihad against Infidel. That would be against you as a deist, you are one with christian.

Yes, Chip, many of the people held at Guantanamo are guilty of the worst crimes. But some have never been charged, or convicted.

But isn't the ability to see good in all souls something cherished by all religions...especially, dare I say, Christianity....?

The men in Guantanamo Bay are the radical muslims who have perverted the "peaceful" religion. Just because they kneel to mecca 5 times a day and respect and honor allah, does not mean that they wouldn't take you or any innocent man woman or child and separate their head from their shoulders.

I'll go with magnanimous.

Though, it's not like he fell in love with islam watching a bunch of school girls. He fell watching a bunch of terrorists. Do you think that the so called peaceful side of the religion was being practiced at gitmo?

The problem with islam, in my humble opinion, is that when they take over a region, you live within their rules and laws, or you get stoned, beaten, or beheaded.

You might not see that as a problem now, but our children and grand children face that threat.

So when will he be indoctrinated into the homicide bomber school?

So, by your reasoning, anyone who believes in Islam is going to be a Jihadist suicide bomber?

Are all Christians abortion-clinic bombers? Are all Mormons polygamists?

Do you always bring this enlightened view to the table, or just when you're feeling especially magnanimous?

The guy didn't see that many in there were killers of innocents in the name of their god? He didn' realize as whatever faith he was they would of killed him as an infidel and thought it was blessed by their religion. I would call him simple as I feel he did not fully understand. Otherwise if he did I would call him stupid.

Read the Koran, it is a religion of hate and intolerence. The fundamentalists and wahabi understand the Koran, they are only doing what it calls for them to do.
