Who bows to a Saudi King

Submitted by Stewart Smalley | 13 months ago

stopsocialism.wordpress.com - President Obama greeted the king of Saudi Arabia with a full bow from the waist yesterday, a move one commentator described as a violation of protocol and not worthy of the office he holds.

"I am quite certain that this is not the protocol, and is most unbecoming a president of the United States," writes Clarice Feldman in an American Thinker commentary.

The US Presidents have been bowing to Saudi for decades, now it's finally in literal form.

I never believed he was mulim but now am starting to wonder. As Hepsy said it was an act of subservience, unfit for any American president to do. This shows he is unfit to be a president.

Batty it is, mutually agreed, if that will make you happy. That means I ll have find a place to fit Batty to you. :)
If you click the quoted source, you will find the referenced article originated from American Thinker.

On the plus side of advantage to living Hawaii: we do not really have a majority race. Our population is 77% minority. Included in the minority are people of European, Mexican and African descent. The best that can be figured for population majority is Oriental, which includes Asia and Philippines. We live together, all mixed up. That gives us an every-day exposure to cultures from around the world that, when you find them on the mainland, they re mostly in large cities and clustered in groups.

The importance of that exposure, and knowledge, includes things that are meaningless to most American understanding of other cultures. Simply put, using your example: the Obama bow was a type of handing over the football. I make the statement not from opinion, rather from the knowledge shelf. I ll give you enough information to research it for yourself.

A bow is a display of respect as it delivers rank comparison. (Excluding the bow of a gentleman to a lady.:)) When one bows from the waist, that is the bow of being of lesser rank. The deeper the bow, the lesser the rank of the one bowing. When equals meet, their bows are equal. When people of high prominence meet, they bow by nodding their heads and if one nod is deeper, that is the one saying I m of lesser importance.

In short, Obama s bow was more than obsequious. He put his knee down, positioning himself as not only lesser than Abdullah with the bow, but also as servant to the King. Maybe not handed over the football, rather the game.

Dream on Crash Tack: Live your life of fantasy. Obama being all kissy face huggy bod is going to make us safer against the Jihadists of the world just how? What part of if you won t be a Muslim we will kill you don't you get? Give me a break on the comments on his gaffs. Has he done anything right? If it had been Bush the press would have been all over this poser. He is dropping in the polls pretty quickly for such a rock star. He put the US news media off on his trip, they will get theirs in kind.

Why would Obama present Saudi KIng with a subservient bow instead of a respectful nod between equals … Show full comment

OK, this is gonna work fine. We can respect each other but still think some of our respective views are batty.

As opposed to one commentator, millions might say he should have offered to dust his sandals after the 8 years (or more) of overt hegemony and disrespect we've been directing toward our neighbors on this planet. That's an intentional overstatement, but you get the point. Arrogance is not the way to win wars, big or small.

This WND mirror stuff is a good chuckle, and saves me from giving them the hit. To suggest that heads of state might observe the protocols of the man in the street is...a stretch. Y'all complain that everything our President does is scripted to the nth, obviously proving his inauthenticity, and then suggest (to be precise, the source suggests - you just meekly infer) that this was a spontaneous and wrongheaded gaffe by a boy in shorts. No way, Friend.

You can't have it both ways. Coherence is a better approach, imo. You might actually swing a vote or two.

Now, if he had handed over the football, that would have been different, and actually newsworthy.

Why would Obama present Saudi KIng with a subservient bow instead of a respectful nod between equals? Did he do that purposefully, or in ignorance?
