This is one of those topics you and me will disagree on...strongly. So let us begin.

Who else was to guard the world against Communist expansionism? Stationing a fleet in an allied port to make them think twice is not unconstitutional. It's damn smart thinking, let me ask thou. What would a CCCP controlled europe have mean for us?

We have discussed this before, I'll just leave this one with a quote; "If the Arabs layed down their arms there would be peace. If the Jews layed down their arms there would be no more Israel."

I won't defend that. From what I've read on the subject from time to time he was a fair leader. Funding revolution against tyrannts is one thing, putting tyrannts into power is quite another.

*Supporting a freedom loving people against a tyrannical one is just so horrible isn't it?

I haven't read on this and don't have any details. However it would be an educated guess that those attempting the coup were Anti-American and would have stopped allowing us to buy oil, am I right?

See above for marked multi-purpose response.

Ibid

Sinai...would that be in Saudi Arabia by chance?

Again, stopping communism. You know the horrors of communism. We were doing everything to stop it's expanding to the point where they could conquer us.

We went over this one not too long ago. So were the soviets, and in oreder to keep those regimes in their camp they had to spend more and more money which they couldn't afford to.

I don't know all of the facts but I'd bet the Israelis were in the right.

On the defence of Kuwait, we were 100% in the right. On the waffling the H.W. pulled. That was and still is inexcusable.

On this one you and me are in agreement, he wasn't acting in our best intrests. He should have did more.

First we're propping up a tyrannical, genocidal regime. Now we're killing innocent children. Pick a side.

A decade late but...

We have legitimate reasons to be there. Osama bin Laden ring a bell?

The difference between Libertarians and Conservatives on this subject isn't a difference of opinion but of degrees. Libertarians are more near-sighted on National Security. Immediate threats are addressed immediately with any necessary force.
Conservatives prefer the avoidance of military conflict by prevention. For example if a tin-pot dictator has a want to nuke America and is actively searching for the means to build a weapon we neutralize the threat before it is a danger.
This is not to be confused with Liberals, who say "Prevention" but actually mean "Bend over and kiss dictators arse."

I agree some of those actions you gave were not called for but the constitution's main reason for government is the protection of it's citizens and the protection of them will take action at times. We could withdraw every soldier from foreign lands and 5 years from then muslims would still be attacking us.

Your adherence to interventionism seems almost religious in the face of facts about its failures, unintended consequences, and overt injustices.

The interventionism that I laid out in (rough) chronological format illustrates the progression of increasing action and hegemony. The pattern is clear, and it parallels the level of the increase in terrorism across the globe. The more the larger powers intervene (look at the US and the USSR), the more the terrorists seem to gain followers and influence. In other words, these methods are not working, they are not even keeping things to a stagnant level; they are making things worse.

Deny all you want, but I am asking you to contact the same problems government creates by intervening in the market. The more government tends to get involved in the market, the more power is granted to the well-connected elite, and the less competition there is. Similarly, the more a powerful military intervenes in the affairs of other nations, the more acrimony it tends to engender, and the more the response tends to be deadly. Religion is merely a vehicle; external intervention stimulates the initial reaction, which builds over time.

You and the Libertarian party are naive in thinking that we can stay neutral and not support allies. The world is a much smaller place than our founders could imagine. ICBMs take the time that Jefferson took to ride to the edge of his property to hit our country from the other side of the globe. Jet bombers can traverse the world. Bombs that can take out a city the size of New York can be transported in a briefcase or car.

You leave out our troops guarding the demilitarized zone between North and South Korea. Also the troops stationed in Europe during the Cold War. Or do you pick and choose what is acceptable.

Hindsight is 20/20 there have been many other actions that worked out well and many of them you don t know about.

Hmmm....are we looking for patterns?

Let's have a brief look at the history of the U.S. government in the Middle East since WWII:

1946 - The Truman administration projects military power on to the region by establishing the sixth naval fleet in Naples, Italy, as tensions mount between the US and the USSR regarding Turkey.

1947 - The US government officially recognizes the state of Israel and supports the partition of former British-occupied Palestine.

1953 - The US government (the CIA) helps overthrow a democratically-elected leader, Mossadegh, in Iran in order to re-install the murderous Shah, which helped sew the seeds for the Islamist revolution in 1979.

1958 - The US government begins to arm the Israeli government with weapons and military aid. This begins to include tanks in 1965, and fighter jets in 1966.

1963 - The Kennedy administration intervenes on behalf of the Saudi Royal Family to protect them from Arab nationalists who threaten their regime by stationing a squadron of jet fighters in Dharhan.

1967 - During the 1967 War between Israel and various Arab states, the US government sends in the sixth naval fleet to patrol the scene under the pretext of "preventing Soviet influence."

1973 - During the Yom Kippur War, the Nixon administration provides military support and war material to the Israelis

1979 - The US government permanently stations several hundred troops in the Sinai Desert

1982-87 - The US government begins the policy of what will later be called the Iran-Contra Affair, a policy of selling weapons to the Iranian government in order to help fund the Contras, a paramilitary terrorist organization which was at war with the repressive Sandanista regime in Nicaragua.

1980-88 - The US government supports the Iraqi government (controlled by the Communist Saddam Hussein) with arms and other material during the bloody Iran-Iraq War. This support occurred during at time when the Hussein regime used chemical weapons against the Iranians and against its own people.

1982 - The Reagan administration sends 800 troops to assist Israel's invasion of Lebanon

1988 - An American naval vessel, USS Vincennes, accidentally attacks an Iranian commercial jet, killing 290 people. An American admiral would later admit that the Vincennes was in Iranian waters at the time.

1991 - The US government begins Operation Desert Storm, which repelled the Iraqi invasion of its neighbor, Kuwait. The US President calls on the Iraqi people to "rise up" against the Hussein regime, but then later returns military weaponry to the Iraqi military, which they then use against their own people.

1998-2000 - The Clinton administration conducts a bombing campaign against the Hussein regime. The US government openly funds groups working against the Hussein regime in Iraq.

1990-2003 - The US government imposes sanctions on the Hussein regime in Iraq. Estimates of casualties caused by sanctions range from 150,000 to 1.5 million, with even conservative estimates including over 100,000 children.

2003 - present - The US government invades Iraq and begins the occupation of the country.

2001- present - The US government invades Afghanistan and begins its occupation of the country.

During both the Carter and Reagan administrations, the CIA significantly funded the Mujahideen, a group allied against the Soviet Union's war against Afghanistan. The Reagan administration called the Mujahideen "freedom fighters." Eventually, many of these men would become in the formation of the Taliban, which the US government is currently fighting in that country.

So, before all you Cons start to throw out the tired strawman that I am "blaming the US", don't bother. I am most certainly pointing to the facts about US interventionism in the Middle East and larger Muslim world over the last half-century. These are undeniable. Blowback is a real effect, and cannot be dismissed. I would never argue that the US is "responsible" for the actions of terrorists. However, the US governments actions are most certainly responsible for creating enmity and a unifying cause for terrorists to rally behind. Interventionism always breeds unintended consequences, and these are they. The actual, direct effects of US actions are even more deplorable.

Analysis - government is dangerous whether at home or abroad. Big government is even more dangerous, and one which parades as "defending freedom" while murdering innocent people is both dangerous and deceitful. Our government is supposed to be a republic, but it has long been behaving like an empire. It's high time this course was reversed.

The first report I heard of the Ft. Hood murders, the announcer said he could not give the alleged shooters name because he did not want to cause any undue hatred towards any group of Americans. So I guess we all would have taken to the streets and stoned Muslims if we had known the guys name because we are all racists.

And if his name was Joe Smith, would we have lined up all the Mormons? Of course not.

Despite what the loony left would have everyone believe we are not racists. We do not label. That is the job of the left. Categorize everyone. Make everyone a victim, then claim to be their hero. Vote won.

Man, Libs are easy.

Let's see here, actual answer. d to all. The P-C lollipop and rainbow answers are just a tad more complicated.
1: b, Jay Leno. For his center-right veiws and for booking El-Rushbo before Mrs. The One.
2: c, The Governator, for even considering stopping welfare. Who cares if the state will be bankrupt?
3: e, Elvis leading a tourbus full of 80-year old women.
4: c, The Boy Scouts. Damn them for teaching children to survive in the wild by eating animals.
5: e, A pizza delivery boy after Geraldo Rivera drew a map in the sand and give away their location.
6: a, The Smurfs. For outwitting that poor, helpless man who only wanted a Smurf smoothy.
7: c, Mother Teresa. For spreading those evil lies about morality and God.
8: b, The Tooth Fairy. For discriminating against children who haven't lost any teeth.
9: e, Grandma Mosses made the bomb and Michael Jordan slam dunked it into the basement.
10: a, Mr. Rogers. After stealing the idea from the WWF, that's how evil he was.
11: a, Bugs Bunny, Wile E. Coyote, Daffy Duck and Elmer Fudd. For various reasons but the biggest being the repeated use of firearms. Some child might watch it and try to shoot their sibling with a multi-ton artillery peice!
12: b, The Lutheran Church. See 7, Mother Teresa.
13: c, Billy Graham. See above.

Told you the PC ones were more complicated. In closing, "Not all Muslims are terrorists, but nearly all terrorists are Muslims. And you just can't ignore that."

Chrissy Matthews thinks we will never know if religion was the reason for the Ft. Hood shootings. He also says the Christian right is the same as the taliban. Lots of patterns emerging from the left in America. Their pc world is destroying America to the loud applause of the democrat party and the extremists of the media. They are actually willing to make this shooter a "victim" after the cold-blooded murder of American gi's. The left must be so proud of their treacherous behavior. I am sure our enemies are.
