Well therein is an open question if indeed I have ever heard one.
There are many and several things that could be changed.
I would first try to absolve the lawmaking process.
Much, Much to tedious and brokered, now this is quite the issue, as any change in our lawmaking process would be deemed unconstitutional, soo I think it may be time to move on from the old ways, it is new times and we need a newer form of Government-Public relations, In short I suppose I agree with geezer

I think we need to change the seniority system in Washington. That's what produces the power and why should one Senator or Congressman be more powerful than another. Both were elected by the people. I'd go to Mississippi or Texas if I needed a fishing guide but not for not for someone to guide my life. Politicians in Mississippi are almost elected for life. Sure, they bring home the pork but they don't spread it around much. At the bottom of the list in schools, roads, housing etc. but gets billions in government spending. We elect our officials then they go to the capital and say I'll chair this or that committee cause I have seniority. Reminds me of my union rep.

I was an Amphib. in the service and our motto was"United We Land".They stressed on us that you had to be able to depend on the guys around you. I think about that a lot when I hear the ultra right Neandercons yelling commie and check his birth certificate. Go watch wrestling or something. We have gotten to where we are by compromising. We need to more of it.

term limits for all federal elected officials- if they all realize they've got but a term of power they'll be tempted to use it to their advantage as much as possible- the way i see it there is no way around timeline for elected officials. respect for... rights, restoration..freedoms- could you be more specific.

actually, its better off being dems vs. reps. One without the other will make USA a one party system and thats an election away from aristocracy. Its better off one vs. the other, matter of fact if it were up to me USA will be a multiparty system. Because in the struggle for power each party will serve as a watchdog for the other, watching their every move, waiting for them to do something that will influence public opinion, although it doesn't really seem like their watching each other now.

What can be changed is the constant battling between the Dems and Reps. we divide and conquer ourselfs. To always agree with what your partys stance is on a topic is illogical. People need to use there minds and not back up talking points by political party's spin masters. We also need to pull together and support our President and country. It is a scary time in history. Last thing is to pull Obberman and the lesbian off MSNBC.

Closing America for immigration will only negatively affect this country. America will not be able to draw the greatest minds and talent to this country. This is what made America great and if you think that it's time to stop, you are wrong. The labor immigration is important as well because these people get this country going by working in the sectors where not everyone else wants to work.

At what point do we say we have had enough immigration, when we have no open spaces, one city rubbing against the next coast to coast?
Dillinger1999 1 year ago
I think that the key to making America great is found in the phrase "We the people". These are the first three words of the preamble to the US constitution. The same document that gives body to the ideals of our nation and provides Americans with the security that as long as there are those that are willing to embrace it, our liberties will reign on.
Now this is all a nice sentiment, but it does beg the question, "WHO are the people?" Sounds simple? I'm sure you are thinking the "We" is all Americans, and in that you would be right. However, the part that must not be ignored is that the "We" does not only refer to those who are protected but also to those who must do the protection as well. With this use of "We" all Americans are charged with the responsibility of participation that comes with the benefit of membership.
Americans are unique in all the world in how we value opportunity and prospect. Americans are inspiring in their ability to look beyond the horizon and feel that although there may be tribulations ahead, a brighter future awaits. It is this exact spirit that now has Americans filled with hope. With hope in its leaders and its government to see us through the tempest in which America has become engulfed.
But hope is not enough. For while our leaders are there to help us find the way, to succeed all Americans now more than ever need to take hold of their love of opportunity and make the prosperity. To become the piece of the solution. To not wait to be saved but become a savior. To be an active participant. To understand that the government is not the abstract thing it has become to be perceived to be, but that the government is all Americans.
My proposition then is to move beyond the waiting for "the government" to take action, and instead let us take action as the government. To dedicate ourselves to helping our fellow man.
Now I'm not saying that we must go out and become zealots of charity or grand philanthropists. I'm not saying that we need to all run for office. What I am saying is that if every American took it upon themselves to give just a small part of themselves to improving some piece of their world. To give a blanket to one who is cold. A can of food to one who is hungry. A dollar to one who is poor. A helping hand to one who is in need. Just a small spark of themselves. That these small sparks would ignite into a conflagration of greatness that would outshine the sun and cause our beacon of freedom that was promised to the world over 200 years ago to burn more brightly than it has ever before. That our actions for good individually would have an aggregate that would shake the very foundations of tyranny and hate to the point where the power of our example would be indisputable.
United We stand. Divided We fall. Become the We.

I would not go as far as saying it is illegal to become a lobbyist. That becomes to eccentric of a regulation on the individual for my liking.
Reform and transparency would discourage this practice heavily however. As would the term limits... since their friends in the system would be leaving as well.
