Do you agree with President Obama that the US has a moral responsibility to lead global efforts to rid the world of nuclear arms?

There is nothing wrong with riding the world of nukes, or of downsizing the nuclear arsenal internationally... but the US certainly has no moral obligation to make it happen or to lead the way. No more than any other powerful nation that is.
Hunny, your right the US has no obligation to rid the world of nukes.
What do you want to do, to sit back and watch them blow up others? You do know, they'd nuke our allies first, dont you?
Until the world can truly be at peace with each other and people start seeing each other for what we are, people (not black, white, hispanic, asian, muslim, jewish, hindu, indian, etc), then no I don't think there is a need to give up nuclear arms nor tell anyone else they should do so too.
I'd rather that we can protect ourselves in the event of WWIII instead of being sitting ducks.
Nuclear weapons will be around until something makes them obsolete, until then no one is going to give them up.
I'm sorry but people will never feel that way about one another, ever.
Humans by race are vindictive, spiteful, cruel, and in need of a serious emotional and physocological awakening. They will always find someone/thing to hate
Nuclear arms will stay as long as the human race stays.... or until the next great superweapon becomes availible.
I agree Obama should follow through if that is what he believes in.
Therein lies the problem, it is not only about what he wants or believes, it is the decision of the populace.
Obama would have to let the masses decide,
he can do nothing without the consent of the American people, we all know this... soooo let your voices be heard I guess
You said, "Obama would have to let the masses decide"
Obama doesn't have to let the masses decide because it wasn't on his platform...HOWEVER - it was on the platform of some of the third party candidates that the masses could decide on each devisive issue.-
the masses made their decison in a dictatorship....
No, it isn't the decision of the populace. He never offered that. It is his job - the delirious people voted for him along with the ill-informed or uninformed voters.
I am all for the elimination of nuclear weapons.... but I am also realistic enough to know I won't see it in my lifetime.
Ditto. Ain't going to happen in my life time either. And I'm 2! Ok...47. Don't get me wrong, I'm an Obie guy...but I'm sick and tired of hearing "statesmen" make these hollow lame a*s statements. Snooze fest. Heard it all before...
Wow, I agree, for the most part, but I do think that the WORLD community needs to block certain regimes from "Nuking Up". I think that N. Korea, Iran, Venezuela, etc. should not be permitted to have nuclear weapons.
