Does the new Democratic supermajority really matter?

The Republicans had the senate and the house for the 10 years before that and the presidency, the senate, and the house for 6 of those years and look what happened as a result? A series of banking deregulations, wars that we cannot get out of, mass expansion of the US military, China becoming a super power to contend with (not to mention they basically own us now) the collapse of the housing market due to the mass banking deregulations and ridiculous interest rates, wall street tanking, social security an even bigger mess, our dependency on foreign oil nearly bankrupting people. Need I really go on?
I'm not saying the Dems will fix everything, but something seriously needs to give. Our path to hell in a hand basket started in 1989. Or should we go all the way back to when deregulation became a common occurrence and we started allowing businesses do whatever they felt like doing as long as they follow a snippet of the rules?
America was set up to have a series or checks and balances. That no one group or person would have too much control. i.e. Congress,Senate,President, Supreme court. And freedom of press kept all of them honest to some extent. but when the press is one sided. And the same party has all control. things are going terribly wrong. which ever side is.
I am just basing my judgement about this on the popularity polls for the president and congress, which are steadily getting worse. The tea parties across the nation that carry not only conservatives but democrats as well are actually getting noticed and the more moderate democrats and even the hard leaning democrats are actually coming out of their cocoon's and seeing the righting on the wall. Hell there are even seriously left wing folks out there that are complaining about the spending they asked for.
If we keep the pressure up the folks up for re-election will think hard and fast about what they are really voting for.
while they have this super majority they will expand the govt so much that we might not be able to get them out only blind fools vote for the party that is running us into the mud to bad thats most of the country
But if the country is still willing to wear rose-colored glasses and believe the lie that entitlements and subsidies are the cure to America's problems, then the supermajority will ensure more destructive legislation is enacted and our country will march further down the Socialist road .
thats why the country is a train wreck
the dems have had senate and congress for the last two years and look what a great job they have done.
It will be greatly diminished with the 2010 elections approaching and numerous democrats are on the chopping block. They will start voting more conservative to ensure they fool their constituents into thinking they actually care about them.
I think it will, and about time after the previous eight years! For once the Dems are in control!
It does matter, just not as much as the hype would suggest. Senators will still have their own individual reasons for voting the way they do, so it won't always come down to 60-40. That said, there will probably be times when it will, and it may even pressure certain Senators (in both parties) to vote with the Democrats on various issues.
