Submitted by Rosetteismyname | 1 year ago

I entered this in for a democracy challenge contest. I won't win. But I thought it'd be fun to give a go at it anyway.

Every time you refer to democracy and the constitution, and the concept of the rule of law... you are actually referencing elements of a Republic.

Latin term res publica, where the elements of a Republic come from, means 'public matters' or laws. The ideas of a a public legal code as a primary essence of government, and a constitution itself to restrain government and guarantee rights is Republicanism.

By definition, these elements do not fall into democracy. Which is why the US was founded, not as a democracy, but as a Republic.
