There is one thing I do not understand though…UK has the monarchy in name only? I mean, when we want to say that someone has no real power, we say “powerful like the Queen of England”. So it is just about tradition. Why are they obsessing over what the Royal family does then?
Yes, but that role should not be underestimated either. The Royal family personifies the unity of the country.
The Queen has had the most turbulent year since the passing of Princess Diana. The 98 year old Duke, who shouldn’t be driving, was the first in the news with his needless accident, but worse was to come. Prince Andrew, the Queen’s favourite, has been stripped of Royal duties after his train wreck of a BBC interview to answer sex allegations after being connected with paedophile Jeffrey Epstein, it is thought that the FBI are interested in interviewing him. Prince Harry, former people’s favourite, has whinged and broken down in tears almost at will as he has become dominated by Megan and her ‘Liberal set’. That leaves the unpredictable Charles to steady the ship. The Queen will retire at 95 so we will see if someone can come in who can emulate Elizabeth’s popularity in ruling the country.
