He was not trying to attack Iran and start the war, but to stop the war by eliminating the main problem. Do you really believe that Iran will attack us?

Iran isn’t a new problem. Were the circumstances for this particular attack necessary? Maybe, maybe not. But it didn’t come out of nowhere. He’s had his entire presidency to “negotiate” before escalation. I’d argue that his poor handling of Iran the past 3 years is the cause for him having to attack them.
I think you are too used to the fact that we are always in control. Other countries have their calculations too, they are not passive. They obviously thought that this was the best moment to interfere in Iraq. Soleimani was their key man. And this is where are interests clashed, because Iraq is our playground. You cannot always negotiate.
